A Future for Vacuum Arc Remelting and Electroslag Remelting—A Critical Perspective

چکیده

In the secondary metals refining processes, vacuum arc remelting (VAR) and electroslag (ESR), consumable electrode is commonly produced by induction melting (VIM) which employs regrettably primitive casting technique of simply pouring into open top mold. Despite vacuum, resulting oxidizing conditions immensely powerful turbulence accompanying top-pouring now known to create a substantial density serious cracks. The cracks in cast are bifilms (double oxide films), turn proposed be responsible for major faults VAR ingot, including undetectable, horizontal macroscopic cracks, white spots (clean dirty varieties) in-fallen crown. remedial action solve all these issues at stroke provision counter-gravity electrode, air or any similar substantially free from bifilm defects. ESR process also described, explaining reasons its significantly reduced sensitivity top-poured VIM but indicating that with an improved this already nearly reliable has potential perfect reliability. target critical overview assessment processes produce, first time, effectively defect-free metals, we can trust.

Technology for Electroslag Remelting with Rotation of the Consumable Electrode

is known that metal which is produced by the method of electroslag remelting (ESR) has service properties superior to those of metal made by open refining and casting. This can be attributed to the better conditions which exist for refining in the specially chosen slag and for the crystallization of the metal in the case of ESR. However, the need for a two-stage metallurgical conversion (essent...

Modern Control Strategies for Vacuum Arc Remelting of Segregation Sensitive Alloys

There are several process variables which are crucial to the control of vacuum arc remelting of segregation sensitive alloys. These are: electrode gap, melt rate, cooling rate, furnace annulus, furnace atmosphere and electrode quality (i.e. cleanliness and integrity). Of these variables, active, closed loop control is usually applied only to electrode gap. Other variables are controlled by cont...

Liquid metal flow behavior during vacuum consumable arc remelting process for titanium

125301-7474 IJET-IJENS @ February 2012 IJENS I J E N S Abstract—To better understand the vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process, a 3D finite element model is established to analyzing the electromagnetic, temperature and flow fields of titanium alloy ingot during steady state melting process using ANSYS software. The research results show that the current flows from the crucible to consumable electr...

The Structural Evolution and Segregation in a Dual Alloy Ingot Processed by Electroslag Remelting

The structural evolution and segregation in a dual alloy made by electroslag remelting (ESR) was investigated by various analytical techniques. The results show that the macrostructure of the ingot consists of two crystallization structures: one is a quite narrow, fine, equiaxed grain region at the edge and the other is a columnar grain region, which plays a leading role. The typical columnar s...

Effect of Current on Structure and Macrosegregation in Dual Alloy Ingot Processed by Electroslag Remelting

Macrosegregation is a very common problem for the quality control of all cast ingots. The effect of current on the structure and macrosegregation in dual alloy ingot processed by electroslag remelting (ESR) was investigated experimentally with various analytical methods. In this study, the electrode consisted of NiCrMoV alloy bar (upper part) and CrMoV alloy (lower part) with a diameter of 55 m...
